Learn the basics of making pottery!
This class will provide instruction for creating functional ware through wheel throwing, handbuilding, and glazing. Each class will explore a new project, from cups and mugs to bowls and planters. Students can focus on whichever technique suits them best and be certain to finish the class with some new favorite functional pieces. This is a great class for both beginning and experienced potters. Space is limited, so sign up early!
Please note: All functional pieces require two kiln firings, so pieces will not be available for pickup until approximately 1-2 weeks after class ends. Fired pieces can be packaged and shipped for an additional charge.
Danelle Hughes Norman grew up in Roanoke, Virginia. She lived for eight years in Eugene, Oregon, where she apprenticed under ceramic artist, Caroline Osborne-Sommer, before moving to Colorado’s Western Slope in 1999. Danelle earned her BFA in Art Education from Colorado Mesa University, formerly Mesa State, in 2008. She is blessed by living with her children in Ridgway, finding inspiration in daily life here from our magnificent views to the mundane task of chores. Indeed, she sees beauty in the common as it is a celebration of humanity. She believes the duty of the artist is to hold the mirror to society that we may reflect upon ourselves to learn and grow.
Having an artist’s soul and a teacher’s heart, Danelle wears a multitude of hats. She is a ski instructor for Telluride Ski and Golf, a substitute teacher for Ridgway schools, and an art instructor for Weehawken Creative Arts and Ah Haa School for the Arts. She serves on the Board for Weehawken Creative Arts. She offers private lessons through Weehawken’s All Fired Up! ceramic studio as well as children’s classes in both two and three dimensional design. By personally offering tutoring from art criticism to history to creation to media, Danelle fosters creative problem solving and critical thinking skills.
