Ceramics Studio
Whether you’re brand new to pottery or looking for more instruction to level up, this class is for you! This course covers the basics of creating functional pottery and can be taken once or repeated again and again. Each student will receive individual attention from our instructor, with intermediate and advanced techniques being introduced to students at the appropriate skill levels. Instructor-led classes are held from 10AM-1PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays and will cover a variety of topics from centering on the potter’s wheel to glazing bisqueware. On Wednesdays and Fridays of the session, students will have optional, uninstructed open studio time in the ceramics studio, also from 10AM-1PM.
Students are encouraged to attend every Tuesday and Thursday class, but can choose to attend all other dates as desired. This is a great way to become comfortable with wheel throwing and to get to know the Ah Haa Ceramics Studio!*
*This class is a prerequisite for Open Studio Membership*
Danelle Hughes Norman grew up in Roanoke, Virginia. She lived for eight years in Eugene, Oregon, where she apprenticed under ceramic artist, Caroline Osborne-Sommer, before moving to Colorado’s Western Slope in 1999. Danelle earned her BFA in Art Education from Colorado Mesa University, formerly Mesa State, in 2008. She is blessed by living with her children in Ridgway, finding inspiration in daily life here from our magnificent views to the mundane task of chores. Indeed, she sees beauty in the common as it is a celebration of humanity. She believes the duty of the artist is to hold the mirror to society that we may reflect upon ourselves to learn and grow.
Having an artist’s soul and a teacher’s heart, Danelle wears a multitude of hats. She is a ski instructor for Telluride Ski and Golf, a substitute teacher for Ridgway schools, and an art instructor for Weehawken Creative Arts and Ah Haa School for the Arts. She serves on the Board for Weehawken Creative Arts. She offers private lessons through Weehawken’s All Fired Up! ceramic studio as well as children’s classes in both two and three dimensional design. By personally offering tutoring from art criticism to history to creation to media, Danelle fosters creative problem solving and critical thinking skills.
