Ah Haa welcomes Hollie Chastain, a mixed media artist and illustrator working in Chattanooga, Tennessee to the Daniel Tucker Exhibition Gallery. Moons Out, Goons Out, showcases a body of new works created with the weird and supernatural in mind. Coming from both a graphic design and studio art background, her aesthetic has story-telling qualities, mixing found material, strong graphic elements and modern palettes that she has applied to a wide range of commissioned illustration and editorial work. Her bold collages are laced with nostalgia incorporating embroidery, found photography, mid-century styled hand painting and layered paper-craft textures.
“As an “overly” imaginative kid, I developed a love for all things weird and spooky. Befriending the idea of aliens and ghosts made the fear go away, and then eventually the fascination grew along with my appreciation for quilting, embroidery, paper art, and all the crafts that I missed during my time as a graphic designer. Hollie taught a sold out Re•treat class at Ah Haa in August focusing on mixed media and collage techniques.
Moons Out, Goons Out is a twelve-months-a-year mindset in my studio and I’m thrilled to gather some folky, supernatural, nostalgia to celebrate October.”
