Ceramics Studio

Description

Step by step, learn how to throw pottery on the wheel to form functional pieces, such as cups, bowls and plates. Through individual guidance, we will develop finesse and consistency in our throwing techniques while developing our skills. This class can accommodate never-ever potters as well as those with previous throwing experience. Repeating students are encouraged to sign up.

This class is part of Fall For Art! Consider the regular class value of $400 and pay what you can. Choosing to pay more than the class value subsidizes these classes for others.
Ah Haa values the culture of art within our community, supporting artists and giving everyone the opportunity to try something new! Thank you for participating!

Please note: All ceramics projects need to be fired in a pottery kiln and take approximately one month before they are ready to be taken home. You will receive an email once pieces are ready for pickup. If you will no longer be in Telluride, domestic shipping options are available via a third party, Ship It, Copy It. If you have not made arrangements with our Ceramics Director, Ah Haa will discard ceramics projects 30 days after the end of a class. For those who need to have their pieces shipped domestically, please be sure to select this option during the registration process. The total cost for safely packaging and shipping your ceramics projects will be listed on the online registration page for each class. Take note that Ah Haa does not offer international shipping as a standard option.

About the Artist

Danelle Hughes Norman grew up in Roanoke, Virginia. She lived for eight years in Eugene, Oregon, where she apprenticed under ceramic artist, Caroline Osborne-Sommer, before moving to Colorado’s Western Slope in 1999. Danelle earned her BFA in Art Education from Colorado Mesa University, formerly Mesa State, in 2008. She is blessed by living with her children in Ridgway, finding inspiration in daily life here from our magnificent views to the mundane task of chores. Indeed, she sees beauty in the common as it is a celebration of humanity. She believes the duty of the artist is to hold the mirror to society that we may reflect upon ourselves to learn and grow. Having an artist’s soul and a teacher’s heart, Danelle wears a multitude of hats. She is a ski instructor for Telluride Ski and Golf, a substitute teacher for Ridgway schools, and an art instructor for Weehawken Creative Arts and Ah Haa School for the Arts. She serves on the Board for Weehawken Creative Arts. She offers private lessons through Weehawken’s All Fired Up! ceramic studio as well as children’s classes in both two and three dimensional design. By personally offering tutoring from art criticism to history to creation to media, Danelle fosters creative problem solving and critical thinking skills.
